On a chilly late November day, five volunteers jumped aboard the iconic Rainbow Warrior on its transit leg from London to Amsterdam. Alongside an incredible crew and captain, Hettie Geenen, we experienced sailing on a Greenpeace ship across the North Sea. Over the 4 days we were shown the ropes, saw the inner workings of daily life at sea and got involved with different daily duties - including night watch and scrubbing the decks.

The Rainbow Warrior III is used for environmental activism and innovative scientific research. The ship was custom built to meet strict environmental demands and as a result the heat generated from the engine is recycled to heat the cabins and the used water is treated and purified by a biological system. We sailed  most of our way to Amsterdam solely on the wind!

"When at sea, be free."
